Contributing to Society Through Our Business

As spelled out in the Recruit Group Management Philosophy, our aim is to contribute to "a bright, vibrant future where people can choose their own life path." Toward this end, we have defined Five Core Themes for CSR. During fiscal 2014, based on these themes, we worked to contribute to society through our business, clarifying the tasks to be pursued by each company in the Group. This is our report on our CSR achievements in fiscal 2014 and the challenges that lie ahead in fiscal 2015.

Enabling more people to flourish by creating opportunities to work

Work provides an important opportunity for people to connect with society and live fulfilling lives. We will create opportunities for everyone to freely choose their own unique work style. It is our aim to help create a society that enables more people to unleash their full potential, grow through work, and thus flourish.

Through its human-resource services, Recruit seeks to create opportunities for all individuals to freely choose their ideal work and working style. Through employment that helps more people to grow and live their lives to the fullest, we strive for a society where all individuals make full use of their abilities. In particular, we support work balanced with child-rearing as a means of "creating a world where parents can both raise their children and work."

Supporting diverse ways of living

As the pace of change in society accelerates, people's values and ways of living are diversifying. Through actions that respond to the needs for regional revitalization and the demands of an aging society, we will provide a wider range of choices to meet diverse, individual needs. We aspire to help create a society in which all people can enjoy ways of living that reflect their true selves.

People's values and ways of living become more diverse in this era of rapid change. To ensure the success of these ways of living, Recruit aims to bring new vigor to communities, which now face a range of challenges, and to smaller businesses, the mainstay supporting people's lives in society. By supporting the complex operations of these businesses with IT services, we help them to regain their natural vitality, contributing to a better society for communities and consumers alike.

Empowering tomorrow's talents

Drawing out the potential of each person is essential for a brighter and more fulfilling world in which all individuals can flourish. In Japanese society, with its low birthrate, it is of particular importance to support and develop children and the young. We will strive to contribute to a society with less educational disparity and that meets the needs of all who are eager to learn. We will also endeavor to foster next generation leaders through career education and the training of human resources with global skills.

Jyuken Sapuri is Recruit's online learning support tool providing universal access to top-flight exam preparation help, regardless of the users' location or financial status. More than 1.5 million high school students have subscribed to the service since its launch, and we are now extending it to younger students and working with schools to make it a valuable part of the in-class learning experience. In these ways Recruit pursues the goal of bringing quality education to all.

Practicing and promoting innovative work styles

Work styles continue to evolve as the times change. We will lead the way to a society in which the right of each individual to a fulfilling life is respected, and where people can work with purpose and enthusiasm. To do so, we shall ourselves promote diversity and create work styles that serve as models for Japanese society. In particular, we will show various innovative ways in which women can play an active role in the workplace, an area where Japan lags behind the international community.

In a rapidly changing world, work styles continuously change as well. Recruit is doing its part to build a society where all people can work with happiness and pride, making it one where individuals can live their lives to the fullest. As part of these efforts, we are promoting diversity and creating ways to work that can serve as models for Japan. In particular, we are proposing new forms of work that will allow women to play leading roles in society.

Respecting human rights and protecting the environment

Respect for the human rights of each individual is the precondition for creating a society in which all people can flourish. We shall respect basic labor rights while eliminating discriminations and infringements upon human rights in all corporate activities. At the same time, to protect the global environment that serves as the stage for all human endeavors, we are working to expand the scope of our environmental efforts through our business activities, products, and services in order to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
